Governo ou Governamento ['Governo' or 'Governamento' in Portuguese]

Alfredo Veiga-Neto

View article (In Portuguese)

This paper intends to reach a very specific goal that is to revive, in the context of Portuguese speakers, the use of the word ‘governamento’, in order to make it easier and rigorous the two possible understandings that are possible to give to the word ‘governo’, from a foucauldian perspective. Considering that Foucault used two different words – gouverne and gouvernement – in his writings on Political Philosophy, this paper attempts to demonstrate how adequate is to use, in Portuguese as well, the words ‘governo’ and ‘governamento’ to express, more accurately, the original sense given by Foucault.
